This tournament is open to any fighters that don’t have a fighting award (Red Company, Gold Mace, and Knights/Masters of Arms are not eligible to participate; equivalent awards from other kingdoms also disqualify fighters). The format will be decided based on the number of combatants.
This tournament will start 5-10 minutes after the end of the Novice Tournament.
The Ladder of Renown Tournament is fought in four rounds with each round fought Atlantian speed tourney style. It can be run single elimination (the normal way to run this tourney – keeps the tourney very fast) or it can be double elimination if more time is available. The final fight in each round shall be called by the heralds and fought “for the Crown” with the names of both fighters being announced followed by announcing the victor for the round.
- Round 1: Eligible fighters may not have any kingdom level fighting awards; the winner of Round 1 has their name recorded and is allowed to move up and enter Round 2. Please note: there is no experience limit for this tier – if a fighter has been fighting for 20 years, but has no fighting awards, they fight in this round.
- Round 2: Open to members of the Red Company (or equivalent AoA) fighting award or any non-Captain, non-Chivalry with a Dragon’s Tooth individual award (or equivalent award). The winner of Round 2 has their name recorded and is allowed to move up and enter Round 3.
- Round 3: Open to Captains of the Gold Mace or any fighter with an equivalent Grant level fighting award from another kingdom. The winner of Round 3 has their name recorded and is allowed to move up to Round 4.
- Round 4: Open to Chivalry and Royal Peers (even if the Royal Peer is not a member of the Chivalry).
There is no prize for this tournament, but the winners of each round shall have their names read in court and be recognized for their skill at arms.
Each round is fought with a specified weapon style. All wins are reported to the marshal’s table. If a fighter wings 5 (FIVE) fights in a row, they must step out of list and report to the list table before they can reenter the round. The top 3 scores will be read aloud in court.
| Round 1 (1:00-1:30) | Weapon and Shield (a buckler is considered a shield) |
| Round 2 (1:45-2:15) | Two Weapon (one weapon in each hand) |
| Round 3 (2:30-2:45) | Great Weapon (secondary weapons are allowed) |
| Round 4 (3:00-3:30) | Fighter’s Choice |
- This is primarily silly ridiculous fun for the fighters AND the spectators. It’s a spectacle of silliness!
- The “Brawl” is open to heavy fighter AND rapier fighters with the following provisions:
- All HEAVY combatants must be armored to at least minimum heavy combat standards and gauntlets are required for the tavern brawl.
- All RAPIER combatants must be armored to at least minimum rapier armor requirements but NO BARE SKIN. Hand covering of heavy gloves or cut and thrust gloves.
- NO ACTUAL WEAPONS are used in the tavern brawl – weapons must be lightweight and silly like things you might find in a tavern.
- All foam construction or cardboard or similar lightweight materials may be used. No full rattan or heavy objects, please. Boffer construction rules are good guidelines for making items. Siloflex tubing is legal for construction. The more ridiculous – the better. Weapons may include but are not limited to: Foam Motorcycles, cardboard tables, petrified dead cat, Nerf football throwing squids, foam fruit, foam cookies, musical instruments of dubious construction, foam frying pans, legs of mutton, mugs, glasses, throwable dwarves, pies, and the like. Use your imagination!
- Breakaway tables, chairs, chandeliers, etc. held together with Velcro like in any good tavern brawl are also acceptable.
- All weapons must be at least 1 ¼ inches in all dimensions so that they can’t go into eye slots or bar grills.
- Weapons should be light, staying within a maximum of 5 pounds weight.
- Stuffed animals of sufficient sturdiness are allowed in the tavern.
- All weapons are available to everyone in the brawl.
- The spectators may also make such weapons that may be thrown in from outside the list ropes – the populace is encouraged to participate and be just as creative. Throwing pizzas, foam frying pans, throwing pork chops, flying pies, throwing cookies, throwing fruit, etc. are all welcome and we’d love to have as many kids participating as possible from outside the ropes.
- Any time any fighter in the tavern is hit by ANY object or projectile delivered by any person in or out of the list, they fall to the ground for a five count and then get back up and may continue. It’s all good fun and being a good sport is key.
- Light grappling is tolerated, but if the marshals see any WWE moves or Jimmy Snuka coming off the top rope business that fighter will be ejected from the brawl.
There is nothing to be won in the Tavern Brawl. It is purely for the fun of the fighters and a chance for the populace and the kids to bonk a few fighters. Go all out. Evel Knievel in a sequined jump suit over his armor riding a foam motorcycle has made an appearance at past brawls. And entire band including a foam stand-up bass and piano have also been seen (the bagpipe made from dog squeaky toys was very creative). The point of this is to create a spectacle and have a blast!
