The Barony of the Flaming Gryphon offers a wide range of activities for members with interests in medieval combat, arts, and culture. New participants are always welcome — no experience required.
Armored Combat (Heavy Weapons)
Armored combat recreates the tournament and battlefield combat of the Middle Ages. Participants wear steel armor and fight with rattan weapons. All equipment is inspected for safety before each practice.

Rapier (Fencing)
Rapier combat recreates the civilian sword-fighting styles of Renaissance Europe. Participants use flexible steel rapiers with protective masks and jackets. Rapier practice runs alongside armored combat on Thursday evenings.

Archery
The Barony maintains an archery program covering target archery with period-style equipment. Competitions are held at Baronial and Kingdom events. The Barony holds multiple archery championships (longbow, crossbow, and youth).

Arts & Sciences
The Arts & Sciences program encompasses the full range of medieval crafts and scholarship: calligraphy, illumination, textile arts, brewing, cooking, music, dance, woodworking, leatherworking, and more. Competitions are held at Baronial events and the Kingdom A&S championship.

Heraldry
The Baronial Herald assists members in researching and registering period names and heraldic devices through the SCA College of Arms. The Barony also participates in voice heraldry (court announcements) and field heraldry at events.
The Baronial arms are: Ermine, on a pile Or a gryphon segreant azure.
